Happy Spring ! ! !
Everything is turning the most beautiful shades of GREEN! If you were thinking about having portraits out among the trees - now would be a great time to book - the grass and moss are turning a beautiful green - but things are not yet so overgrown as to be weedy. I did see our first dandelions popping up this week though so the paucity of weeds will be brief. Remember Dorothy we are still in Kansas.
Advice though if you plan to do portraits in the woods this year - bring the insect repellant - ticks are already out doing their work.
Advise for portrait sessions in the woods or fields - bring a little supply bag:
Tonight I'm really putting my internet bandwidth to the test - online data backup - uploading images for a photo book - and updating hubby's website.
I've been busy lately with several projects so I haven't blogged as often as I’d like. Soon I will re-focus my attention on portraits and updating this site. I recently had access to a large format printer and a roll of canvas so I made some canvas prints myself rather than ordering them from an online service. They were ready just in time for the Final Friday Art Walk in Lawrence, Kansas. It was great to see so many pieces on canvas. I knew some of the fine art prints would look good on canvas but I was also blown away by how cool portraits looked printed this way.
It was fun to hear good feedback on the results of the canvas printing process. I'll be participating in a group show next Friday at the Pop Up Gallery 2100 Grand, Kansas City, MO. The show opens First Friday - May 3 and will be up through the month of May. If you are down in the Crossroads or visiting Crown Center or Union Station stop by the Pop Up Gallery to see the show.
I'm in the process of backing up all of my images and data online because even really nice external hard drives fail - so when you consider that you have to back up all of your images at least twice - having one of those systems online makes sense.
I've been working on a Zoo project - which will continue throughout the year - but it is time to produce something from the images I've accumulated to date - so I'll be working on a book from the zoo project, then another book from our Italy trip in 2011. Another ongoing project is photographing my husband's work and helping to keep his website updated. He is extremely talented and we need to get one of his larger sculptures permanently installed in a public space before the year ends.
After that I'll be working on meditation journals.
I'm excited to have so many projects going - but I will always find time for my portrait clients - because I enjoy creating images that make people happy - and what makes you happier than seeing your loved ones looking their best. I focus on really trying to capture every client's beauty and true personality during a photo session. I look forward to meeting you and the people you love - and helping you preserve the essence of who you are right now.
